Western Area Athletics Association Elects New President

A new chapter has begun for athletics in the Western Area following the election of Swahib Bangura as President of the Western Area Athletics Association.

Bangura secured a decisive victory, polling 37 votes in the election held over the weekend at St. Anthony’s School on Syke Street in Freetown.

His election is being widely viewed by stakeholders as a significant step toward revitalizing athletics in the region, with growing expectations for improved development structures, better organization, and enhanced support for athletes.

Observers within the sporting community believe Bangura’s leadership could usher in renewed energy and strategic direction, particularly at a time when efforts are intensifying to identify and nurture emerging talent while strengthening the overall standard of athletics in the Western Area.

The new administration is expected to focus on grassroots development, capacity building, and creating more opportunities for athletes to compete and excel both locally and internationally.
