Mechanic Committed to High Court Over Alleged Vehicle Theft

A mechanic accused of converting a customer's vehicle for his own use has been committed to the High Court of Sierra Leone to stand trial.
Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah ruled on Monday that sufficient evidence was presented against Alimamy John Conteh to justify a trial. Conteh was remanded in custody pending his appearance in the higher court.
Conteh faces one count of fraudulent conversion, in violation of Section 20(1)(iv)(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
Court records allege that between February 1 and February 28, 2026, at No. 12 Main Motor Road, Congo Town, Conteh unlawfully converted a silver Toyota 4Runner Sport Edition (registration ARI 247) to his personal benefit.
The vehicle, valued at US$10,000 (approximately NLe 240,000), had been entrusted to Conteh by its owner, Dennis Sylvester Davis, for repairs.
No plea was entered during the preliminary hearing. Detective Police Constable 17649 Kargbo I is leading the prosecution.
