At the recent Sierra Leone Innovate Digital Government Summit, hosted at the Bintumani Conference Center, the Minister of Communication, Technology, and Innovation, Salima Monorma Bah, announced the successful launch of Sierra Leone's open-access 5G network.

She noted that this network is accessible to all mobile operators nationwide, representing a major step forward in digital connectivity.

Minister Bah also introduced the EduCube, a 20-foot solar-powered digital classroom unit specifically designed for remote and underserved communities. Each unit is furnished with computers, internet access, air conditioning, and printers, providing a portable and self-sufficient digital learning environment.

She highlighted the Big 5 Innovation Investment Challenge, an initiative associated with the 2025 President Bio Innovation Award, which offers up to NLe 1.8 million in seed capital to support pioneering local innovations.

This year's top accolade was awarded to Mohamed Samu for his development of an insect-based organic fertilizer that converts waste into high-protein animal feed. He received a grand prize of $30,000 in recognition of his contributions to sustainable agriculture and environmental stewardship.
