Minister of Information and Civic Education Chernor Bah addressed recent concerns regarding a comment he made about the national drug crisis, particularly in relation to a school teacher's remarks. The teacher had been irked by the Minister publicly naming the Bo school as his son's first point of contact with the substance, Kush.
The Minister in reply published a statement addressing the teacher's statement in a letter.
He disclosed that over three years ago, while his son attended Bo School, he was coerced into experimenting with Kush by older students. As a father, he took immediate action, filing a formal complaint with the school administration in May 2021, prior to his public office.
Bah emphasized that he shared this personal experience not to shame Bo School, but to highlight that no institution is immune to this national emergency.
He stated that the decision to share his story publicly was difficult but necessary, made with his son's permission, to encourage other families to seek help without shame, asserting that silence protects predators, not students.
He appealed for collective action against the drug crisis, offering his collaboration as a father and minister with all schools to protect children.
