Recoveries from Kush Exceed Deaths – Myk Berewa

Myk Berewa, Director of Communications in the Office of the President, recently stated that the number of individuals who have recovered from kush addiction exceeds the number of fatalities attributed to its use. 

However, Mr. Berewa did not provide specific figures, noting that the Ministry of Health maintains data on kush cases, which has not yet been publicly disclosed.

These comments follow a report from Freetown Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, who indicated that 220 deaths resulted from kush use between January 7 and October 8, 2025, highlighting the increasing impact of the drug in the capital.

Mr. Berewa affirmed the government's ongoing commitment to controlling kush abuse, assisting those struggling with addiction, and supporting their recovery efforts. 

He reiterated that comprehensive statistics on kush cases, held by the Ministry of Health, have not been released to the public.
