The Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs has formally announced the apprehension and subsequent detention of a primary suspect and associated family members in relation to a reported incident of child marriage.
In an official communiqué released on Wednesday, the Ministry clarified that these law enforcement actions were executed in strict accordance with the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act and the Child Rights Act of 2025.
The Ministry confirmed that law enforcement officials have secured formal statements from the primary suspect and involved family members as the comprehensive investigation proceeds.
It was further disclosed that the minor involved is presently receiving comprehensive psycho-social interventions and has been transitioned to a secure facility to ensure their continued protection and welfare.
"Our department remains dedicated to assessing the victim's psychological well-being and providing essential protective services," the Ministry articulated.
Officials emphasized that this successful intervention was facilitated through collaborative engagement with community frameworks, international development partners, and the Family Support Unit, reflecting a unified national effort to eradicate child marriage and safeguard vulnerable minors.
The Ministry reinforces its appeal to the general public to report instances of exploitation or maltreatment via the 116 dedicated hotline for gender-based violence and child abuse.
In addition, officials expressed concern over the circulation of the child’s photos and videos on social media, warning that such actions could further violate the victim’s dignity and privacy.
“To protect the dignity and privacy of the child, we strongly appeal to the public to stop sharing her photos and videos,” the Ministry stated.
Bloggers, media houses, and social media users were also advised to exercise caution when publishing child-related and gender-sensitive content online.
According to the Ministry, the identity, dignity, safety, and welfare of children must always be protected in line with child protection laws and ethical standards.
The Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs reaffirmed its commitment to protecting children and enforcing laws against child marriage and abuse. Authorities also called on the public to continue supporting efforts aimed at ending violence against children by reporting cases and respecting the dignity and privacy of victims.
