MoHS Takes Over MSF Facility in Kenema

The Ministry of Health has officially begun integrating the MSF-built Hangha Health Facility in Kenema, strengthening maternal and child healthcare services across the district.

Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, Dr. Donald Grant, District Medical Officer of Kenema, praised MSF for its humanitarian work since 2019 and described the handover as “a continuation of a life-saving legacy that has brought quality healthcare closer to women and children.”

The integration aims to ensure continuity of care, sustainability, and improved service delivery under the Ministry’s oversight. The facility, known for its emergency maternal, pediatric, and surgical services, will now be managed directly by the Kenema DHMT, while community health centres continue to provide complementary services.

Dr. Abdulrahman Tejan Jalloh, Medical Superintendent of the Kenema Government Hospital, said consultations with health workers, community leaders, and partners have facilitated a smooth transition. Despite challenges like staffing and supply shortages, over 460 patients have already been treated since the process began.

Mr. Abdulai Sesay, Deputy Project Coordinator for MSF in Kenema, reiterated that ensuring continuity of care remains the top priority while maintaining quality services and keeping communities informed.
