MoICE Clarifies Guinea Travel Policy, Warns Against Irregular Migration

The Government of Sierra Leone has clarified that its citizens are not banned from traveling to or transiting through Guinea, provided they possess valid travel documents and meet immigration requirements for legitimate purposes.

The Ministry of Information and Civic Education issued this clarification on August 20, 2026, following concerns from Guinean authorities regarding irregular migration, human trafficking, and unverified overseas employment.

While legitimate transit remains fully permitted, strict restrictions apply to individuals attempting to use Guinea as a route to bypass established immigration procedures. The government warns that irregular travel exposes citizens to exploitation, trafficking, and fraudulent job offers.

Citizens seeking employment abroad are urged to verify all overseas arrangements with the Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security before departing.

The ministry emphasized that adhering to proper procedures is vital for protecting workers and ensuring compliance with international laws.
