Mother and Daughters Granted Bail in Berry Street Wounding Case
A mother and her two daughters have been granted bail after pleading not guilty to charges stemming from the alleged wounding and physical assault of a local woman on Berry Street.
Emile Gbaow, 51, a local businesswoman, alongside her daughters Joyah Tarawally, 18, and Esther Tarawally, 20, appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Briama Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1. The three accused face a three-count indictment comprising wounding, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and public insult and provocation.
According to court particulars, the alleged incident took place on January 7, 2026, in the Western Area of Freetown. The prosecution alleges that the defendants maliciously wounded and assaulted Isatu Timbo, causing her actual bodily harm. Furthermore, they are accused of using insulting words in public aimed at provoking a breach of the peace.
All three defendants formally entered pleas of not guilty when the charges were read. Prosecutor DPC Brima Kargbo requested a short adjournment to ensure the defence receives copies of the complete case file and inquiry materials.
Defence counsel A. R. Gbla submitted a bail application under Section 76(1)(c) of the Criminal Procedure Act 2024. Gbla assured the court that the defendants are permanent Sierra Leonean residents within the jurisdiction and pose no risk of interfering with prosecution witnesses.
Magistrate Jah granted each defendant bail set at SLE 20,000, supported by one surety in a like amount. Under the bail terms, each surety must reside within the Freetown jurisdiction, present valid identification, and receive approval from the Deputy Assistant Registrar.
The matter has been adjourned to October 5, 2026, for further hearings as the allegations remain before the court.
