Government Commends Strategic Deployment of Technical Professionals
Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE) has formally commended the Federal Republic of Nigeria for its continued deployment of technical professionals aimed at strengthening the country’s education and healthcare sectors.
The appreciation was expressed on September 25, 2026, during an official handover and sensitisation ceremony for volunteers deployed under the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC). The event took place at the Nigerian High Commission located at Hill Cut Junction in Freetown.
The ceremony gathered key stakeholders, including representatives from MTHE, the Nigerian High Commission, the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS), NTAC leadership, university dignitaries, and members of the press.
Speaking at the event, NTAC Assistant Director of Programmes Hakeem Falussi emphasized that the ongoing placement of specialists in medical and health sciences represents a crucial investment in Sierra Leone’s future. He called on the deployed personnel to uphold high professional standards and demonstrate unwavering commitment throughout their tenure.
Ambassador Ayo Luther Ogbomode, Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, highlighted that the deployment reflects the deep-rooted bilateral relations between both West African nations. She expressed gratitude to MTHE and COMAHS for creating a supportive working environment and advised the professionals to respect local laws and cultural norms, assuring them of full diplomatic support.
Representing the Government of Sierra Leone, MTHE Senior Permanent Secretary Sheick Kargbo praised the volunteers for their sacrifice and willingness to serve abroad, reiterating the government’s commitment to ensuring their safety, welfare, and security.
Prof. Moses Z. Zaruwa, a Biochemist and Clinical Physiologist representing the University Committee, also lauded the initiative, describing the engagement as highly productive and expressing optimism for future academic and scientific collaboration.
Delivering closing remarks, Head of Chancery Ivie Okojie Ymarah thanked all organizers and media participants, urging the professionals to act as worthy ambassadors of Nigeria while serving their host communities with discipline and passion.
The event concluded with mutual pledges to further solidify strategic cooperation between Sierra Leone and Nigeria across education, healthcare, and technical assistance.
