Thomas Dixon Criticises SLPP Over Proposed Arrest Of Musa Tarawally
Journalist and political commentator Thomas Dixon has launched a sharp critique against the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) following its proposing of an arrest for Alhaji Musa Tarawally and his communication consultant, Boima J.V. Boima. Dixon declared that the ruling party is currently operating without clear political leadership or communication strategy.
Appearing on Liberty Online TV, Dixon asserted that the party’s handling of the controversy highlights significant institutional weaknesses.
“The SLPP lacks two directions: political direction and communication direction,” Dixon stated during the broadcast, arguing that the party lacks seasoned leadership to intervene when internal disputes erupt.
Dixon directly challenged the administration of SLPP National Chairman Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa, alleging that disciplinary standards and constitutional rules have been repeatedly bypassed or altered to target members.
Addressing remarks made by SLPP Publicity Secretary Moses Mambu regarding alleged defamation, Dixon reminded the party that criminal defamation was repealed in Sierra Leone. He noted that legal remedies for civil defamation must follow proper judicial procedures rather than party-issued warrants.
“If President Bio feels that he has been defamed by Musa, then his legal counsel should write and follow standard court processes,” Dixon added.
Warning against what he called the “arrogance of power” often displayed by governing parties facing political decline, Dixon urged the SLPP to reform its approach, even while acknowledging that some of Tarawally’s recent public statements were driven by emotion.
