RSLAF Lt Col Brima Completes Three-Week Media Seminar in China
Lieutenant Colonel Yayah Brima of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) has completed a three-week seminar on media communication and new media management in China, where participants received training in modern media practices, information management and the application of artificial intelligence in content production.
The seminar was held in Changsha City, Hunan Province, and brought together 25 media practitioners and communication experts from 10 countries participating in the programme for Belt and Road countries.
Sierra Leone’s delegation included Lt Col Brima, Jestina Aminata Manley of the Sierra Leone National Commission on Arms and Ammunition, and Bilkisu Jalloh of the Office of National Security.
The training covered public opinion management, ideological and cultural communication in the digital media era, responses to online public opinion, media publicity and management, media integration, information verification and content risk control.
Participants also received practical exposure to developments in artificial intelligence and its application in media content production.
As part of the programme, the delegation visited major media organisations and institutions in Changsha and Xi’an, including Hunan Broadcasting Service, Hunan Daily Press, Letian Zhizua Studios/Mango TV, Xi’an Film Studios, the Western International Short Video Base and Shaanxi Media Convergence.
According to Lt Col Brima, the visits provided practical knowledge and experience in AI-generated content production and other aspects of modern media operations.
He expressed appreciation to the military leadership, particularly Chief of Defence Staff Lieutenant General Amara Idara Bangura, for giving him the opportunity to participate in the seminar.
Lt Col Brima said he intends to apply the knowledge and experience gained from the programme upon his return, particularly in improving how stories about the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces are told.
“On my return, I will effectively use the new knowledge to tell RSLAF stories,” he said.
The seminar exposed participants to emerging approaches to media communication, new media management and content production as the sector continues to evolve alongside digital technology and artificial intelligence.
