Motorbike Rider Dies in Fatal Crash at Nyawa Chiefdom Bridge

A motorbike rider, Amara Sannoh Koroma, has died following a fatal road accident in Nyawa Chiefdom, Kailahun District.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, 18 March 2026, between Bandawor town and Gandorhun town. According to police at the Sierra Leone Police in Blama, the accident was reported at about 14:30 hours by personnel of the Bandawor Police Post.

Koroma, a resident of Mattakan village, was reportedly riding an unregistered motorbike and transporting musical instruments tied to the bike at the time of the incident. He was not carrying any passenger.

Police said the rider lost control of the motorbike while approaching a high and narrow bridge, crashing into the structure before falling onto stones in the stream below. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Eyewitnesses, including individuals bathing in the stream at the time, raised the alarm and alerted nearby residents, prompting community members to gather at the scene.

A joint team of Traffic and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers was later dispatched to conduct preliminary investigations and gather relevant information.

By the time the police team arrived, the Paramount Chief of Nyawa Chiefdom, Mariama Tamia Jaward Sandy, was already at the scene.

The body was subsequently conveyed to the Bandawor Health Centre for examination and later released for burial.

Police say investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are ongoing.
