A 22-year-old motorcycle rider, Eric George, has been sentenced to four years in prison for the theft of household items belonging to a former Member of Parliament. Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah handed down the sentence at the Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown following George’s guilty plea.
The court heard that between March 1 and June 30, 2026, George stole goods valued at Le36,500 from a residence at No. 6 Mount Blue Close in Leicester Village, Mountain Rural District. The items stolen from Hon. Monyaba Koroma, a former MP for Bo District and mayoral aspirant, included two large cooking pots, five pairs of assorted crepes, and two electric geese.
During the proceedings, George pleaded guilty to a single count of larceny under Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916. The prosecution, led by DPC 17649 Brima Kargbo, confirmed the facts of the case and noted that the defendant had no prior criminal record.
In his plea for leniency, George requested the court to exercise mercy. In his ruling, Magistrate Jah acknowledged the defendant's remorse and the fact that the early guilty plea had saved the court significant time.
Consequently, Magistrate Jah sentenced George to four years’ imprisonment at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown.
