Murder: Justice for Valentina, Defense Seeks Separate Minor Trial

The Freetown Magistrate Court remains at the forefront of national attention as the trial proceeds for three students accused in the tragic death of Valentina Kamanda, a distinguished lecturer at the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS) and Matron at Connaught Hospital.

The defendants include two young adults and a 16-year-old minor, a demographic composition that has prompted significant public discourse regarding the juvenile justice system and the prevalence of youth "clique" culture.

Recent testimony at the Pademba Road Magistrate Court detailed the alleged roles of the suspects following the incident on February 8, 2026. Goodluck Nicol, the victim’s 16-year-old adopted son, is accused of the physical assault at their Goderich residence.

A second student, identified as Tucker, faces conspiracy charges for his alleged involvement in planning the attack. A third individual was apprehended in possession of the victim's electronic devices, including a laptop and several mobile phones.

The prosecution continues to present forensic evidence linking the accused to the scene, while the defense has petitioned for the minor’s trial to be severed to ensure compliance with the Child Rights Act. This case has deeply impacted the community, drawing demonstrations from academic unions and rights groups demanding rigorous judicial accountability.

All three suspects remain in custody at the Pademba Road Male Correctional Centre pending their next appearance on March 17, 2026.
