New Finance Minister Prioritises Fiscal Discipline and Revenue Growth

In his inaugural address as Sierra Leone’s newly appointed Minister of Finance, Karefa A.F. Kargbo set a firm direction for the nation's economic agenda, pinpointing fiscal discipline, enhanced domestic revenue mobilisation, and streamlined cash-flow management as the core pillars of his administration.
Speaking at a formal handover ceremony alongside outgoing Minister Sheku Ahmed Fatamadi Bangura, Minister Kargbo underscored the imperative for strategic oversight and rigorous financial management to navigate the country's economic landscape.
Turning to ministry officials, the new Finance Minister stressed that robust data integrity and evidence-based policy advice will be crucial in helping the government meet its overarching fiscal and economic targets and extended his gratitude to Mr. Bangura and the Ministry’s staff, acknowledging their dedication and foundational contributions to Sierra Leone’s fiscal stability and ongoing economic development.
Detailing his immediate roadmap, Minister Kargbo reaffirmed his commitment to expanding Sierra Leone’s fiscal space, curbing the fiscal deficit, and aggressively boosting domestic revenue collection.
Central to his strategy is a renewed focus on cash-flow management—a vital measure aimed at solidifying the country’s sovereign financial health.
Moving forward, the Minister plans to foster tight collaboration with key policy stakeholders and ministry personnel to execute these critical reforms and drive the government’s broader economic vision.
