Sierra Leone’s National Under-17 football team, the Sierra Stars, has landed safely in Dakar ahead of the upcoming WAFU-A U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifying Tournament.

Running from September 7 to 20, 2026, the regional tournament will see the young squad battle top West African sides for a place in the prestigious continental championship.

The 32-member delegation includes 20 players alongside 12 technical staff members and officials.

Before kicking off their campaign, the players are slated to undergo mandatory age-verification Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans on September 4 as final preparations wrap up.

Sierra Leone opens its Group A fixtures against The Gambia on Monday, September 7, with kick-off set for 7:00 p.m.

Carrying the hopes of fans back home, the Sierra Stars aim to secure a strong start and build momentum toward a successful qualification run.
