New TEC Chairman Urges Unity

The newly appointed Chairman of the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC), Professor John Abdul Kargbo, has urged staff to put past differences behind them and embrace reconciliation, unity, and a fresh beginning as he takes over leadership of the institution.
He made the appeal during his maiden remarks at a meeting on Thursday, November 5, where the Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie, formally introduced him to TEC staff and Commissioners.
Describing the task ahead as challenging, Professor Kargbo said the Commission would need the collective commitment and support of its workforce to fulfil its responsibilities. Describing himself as a peaceful person, he called for peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and understanding among staff and management, emphasising the importance of working together to move the institution forward.
He also highlighted the need for a strong working relationship between TEC and the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education, saying both institutions must work towards shared goals in advancing tertiary education in Sierra Leone.
During the meeting, Dr. Wurie expressed confidence in Professor Kargbo's ability to lead the Commission, describing him as a familiar figure in the higher education sector and commending his discipline, dedication, and commitment to duty.
The Minister acknowledged the work of TEC staff, commending their continued service despite challenges faced by the Commission. She also paid tribute to the immediate past Chairman for holding the fort and providing leadership during his tenure.
Dr. Wurie reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to strengthening TEC's institutional capacity, particularly through digitisation, which she said would help streamline operations, improve efficiency, and make the Commission's work more seamless.
The Commissioners present welcomed Professor Kargbo's appointment and encouraged staff to give him their full cooperation and support, noting that collective commitment and teamwork would be important to the Commission's growth and development.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister of Technical and Higher Education, senior Ministry officials, TEC Commissioners, and staff.
