NPHA, IMC Engage Media on Ebola Preparedness in Sierra Leone

The National Public Health Agency (NPHA), in collaboration with the Independent Media Commission (IMC), has engaged media practitioners on strengthening public awareness and risk communication as part of national preparedness for Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).
The media dialogue was held on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at the NPHA headquarters on Wilkinson Road in Freetown, bringing together stakeholders to discuss the role of the media in promoting public health awareness and preparedness.
The engagement aimed to encourage journalists and media houses to support public education by disseminating accurate health information and promoting preventive measures against potential Ebola threats.
Although Sierra Leone has no reported Ebola cases, health authorities stressed the importance of heightened vigilance following reports of cases in Kenya and Nigeria.
During the dialogue, officials urged media practitioners to provide accurate and timely health information, counter misinformation and avoid reporting that could trigger unnecessary public panic. They also emphasised the need to educate communities on preventive measures and appropriate public health responses.
The engagement forms part of efforts to strengthen risk communication and ensure that the public receives reliable information to support national preparedness for potential public health threats.
