NPRA Chief Attends Global Energy Summit

Brima Baluwa Koroma, Director-General of Sierra Leone’s National Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NPRA), is attending the 2026 International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Group Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Thailand, as global economic uncertainty and volatile energy markets take center stage.
The high-level summit, held from October 12 to 18 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, gathers delegates from 191 member nations. Participants—including finance ministers, central bank governors, and industry leaders—are addressing pressing priorities surrounding financial stability, debt sustainability, and economic growth.
For Sierra Leone, shifts in international crude prices directly impact domestic fuel rates, public transportation costs, and basic food prices. Unstable global energy costs continue to exert significant pressure on commercial operations and household incomes across the country.
Under NPRA regulatory guidelines, Sierra Leone employs a dynamic petroleum pricing mechanism linked to global benchmark prices, foreign exchange rates, and supply chain logistics to cushion domestic market volatility.
In addition to global energy security, this year’s agenda features sessions on artificial intelligence integration, foreign direct investment, and job creation strategies for developing economies.
Koroma’s presence ensures Sierra Leone’s regulatory interests are represented in broader international macroeconomic discussions at a critical juncture for national economic planning.
