The National Revenue Authority (NRA) of Sierra Leone has issued an urgent public notice warning taxpayers, businesses, and commercial entities to settle all outstanding tax and non-tax revenue obligations immediately or face strict enforcement actions.
Issued in Freetown on August 26, 2026, the directive targets a broad spectrum of commercial operators, including mining companies, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) licence holders, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), television and radio stations, factory operators, private security firms, and state land leaseholders. Liquor licence holders and other entities owing non-tax revenue to the government are also explicitly covered under the decree.
In its statement, the NRA emphasized that full compliance is required without further delay. “All affected entities are strongly advised to immediately settle all outstanding liabilities and bring their tax and Non-Tax Revenue obligations into full compliance,” the Authority cautioned.
Defaulters who fail to regularize their accounts risk stern enforcement measures pursuant to Section 12 of the Finance Act, 2019. Depending on legal applicability, actions may include the sealing of business premises, the garnishment of commercial bank accounts, and travel restrictions outside the country.
The revenue collection body noted that these punitive measures aim to recover vital funds owed to the state as part of broader national efforts to boost domestic revenue collection and improve tax compliance.
Rather than awaiting enforcement, businesses are urged to proactively settle their debts or contact the NRA promptly for clarification and guidance regarding their balances.
