NSA Welcomes Sierra Leone’s Beach Volleyball Gold Medalists

The National Sports Authority (NSA) has welcomed and congratulated Sierra Leone’s Beach Volleyball gold medalists, Sulaiman Bangura and Alie Kainesie, following their impressive triumph at the African Beach Volleyball Development Cup in Senegal.

The NSA Executive Director, Mohamed Alphaka Conteh, Esq., together with senior officials of the Authority, welcomed the two athletes on Friday, August 21, on behalf of President Julius Maada Bio, the sports sector and the people of Sierra Leone.

Bangura, a first-year student at Milton Margai University, and Kainesie, a second-year student at Njala University, secured the gold medal after defeating Ghana 2–0 in the final.

Speaking during the reception, Executive Director Conteh congratulated the athletes and the Sierra Leone Beach Volleyball Federation on the achievement, describing the victory as a proud moment for the country.

He also commended the players for successfully combining their academic studies with their sporting careers and encouraged them to intensify their training, remain focused and continue developing their skills.

Conteh further challenged the duo to defend their title at the upcoming Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal, while assuring the Federation of the Government’s continued support for sports disciplines that continue to deliver positive results for Sierra Leone.

Deputy Executive Director Dr. Abdulai Rahman Swaray also congratulated the athletes and praised their achievement on the international stage.

Earlier, the National President of the Sierra Leone Beach Volleyball Federation, Ahmed Kanu, formally presented the two gold medalists to the NSA and outlined their development journey. He described Bangura and Kainesie as among the best youth beach volleyball pairs in the sub-region.

Kanu disclosed that the Federation is working to establish a standard beach volleyball centre in Bo City, which would serve as a development hub for the sport in the Southern Region.

He further revealed that the Federation intends to camp the two athletes as part of preparations for the Youth Olympic Games in Senegal later this year.

The reception was coordinated by Steven Keifala, Director of Participation and Sustainable Sports at the National Sports Authority.

The achievement by Bangura and Kainesie adds to Sierra Leone’s growing presence in beach volleyball and provides further momentum for the development of the sport among young athletes across the country.
