Old Edwardians FC and Bai Bureh Warriors battled to a dramatic 1-1 draw on Monday, 18th May, at the SLFA Academy in a highly competitive encounter between two of the Leone Rock Premier League’s top five title challengers.
The opening half was tightly contested, with both teams displaying defensive discipline while searching for opportunities in attack. Bai Bureh Warriors came closest to breaking the deadlock in the 30th minute when striker Omega Thoronka unleashed a low strike from inside the penalty area, but Old Edwardians goalkeeper Mohamed B. Kargbo reacted brilliantly to dive low and push the ball away from the bottom corner.
Despite periods of pressure from both sides, neither team managed to find the breakthrough before halftime as the first half ended goalless.
The second half resumed with no changes from either side, and the match continued at an intense pace with chances created at both ends. Bai Bureh Warriors eventually took the lead in the 53rd minute through Koliko Prosper Haba, who capitalized on a loose ball and fired a well-timed half-volley past Kargbo.
The goal forced Old Edwardians into an attacking response as the “School Boys” dominated possession and increased pressure on the Warriors’ defence. Bai Bureh Warriors suffered a setback in the 70th minute after being reduced to 10 men, but they remained resilient and looked set to secure an important victory.
However, Old Edwardians found a dramatic equaliser deep into stoppage time. In the 91st minute, a dangerous cross from the right flank located Umar Fofonah inside the box, and his header dropped kindly for Mamadi Conde, who calmly tapped home to rescue a point for his side.
The result means Old Edwardians remain third on the Leone Rock Premier League table, while Bai Bureh Warriors stay fourth as the race for the title continues to intensify. The draw also increases pressure on Star Sport Academy as Matchweek 27 progresses.
