Match Week 23 of the Leone Rock Premier League delivered a major upset as Old Edwardians brought an end to East End Lions’ impressive unbeaten run with a hard-fought victory at the SLFA Academy.

The defeat marked East End Lions’ first loss since Match Week 16, when they fell to Abacha City, halting what had been one of the longest unbeaten streaks in the league this season.

Despite dominating possession and dictating the tempo for much of the match, East End Lions were unable to convert their chances, as Old Edwardians delivered a disciplined defensive performance. The duo of Andrew Conteh and Issa Mansaray played a pivotal role, organizing the backline effectively to frustrate the Lions throughout the encounter.

The opening exchanges were tightly contested, with Old Edwardians maintaining a compact defensive shape while capitalizing on occasional lapses from East End Lions to launch counterattacks. Their resilience paid off in the 26th minute when James Jusu Kanja broke the deadlock, giving the “School Boys” a crucial lead.

East End Lions pushed forward in search of an equalizer, but Old Edwardians remained resolute. The game was effectively sealed in the 82nd minute when Sammie Jimmy doubled the advantage, sparking celebrations among their supporters.

The shift in momentum was evident at the SLFA Academy, as the previously vocal Lions fans fell silent, while Old Edwardians’ supporters rallied behind their team in celebration.

A late goal in stoppage time provided little consolation for East End Lions, as Old Edwardians held firm to secure all three points.

The victory sees Old Edwardians strengthen their position in third place on the league table, while East End Lions now face mounting pressure ahead of their next fixture against Star Sport Academy. With the title race intensifying, the Lions are now level on points with Mighty Blackpool, adding further significance to their upcoming matches.
