Opposition Leader Calls for Clerk's Resignation Over Political Involvement and Conduct Concerns

The Honorable Abdul Kargbo, Leader of the Opposition, has formally requested the resignation of the Clerk, the Honorable Paran Tarawally, in a letter dated 12th May 2025 addressed to the Speaker of the House of Parliament.

This request arises from concerns that the Honorable Paran Tarawally is seeking an executive position within the Sierra Leone People’s Party, an action which the Honorable Kargbo believes directly contravenes Section 15(a)(ii) of the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) Act and Section 26(2)(b) of the Constitution of Sierra Leone. Both provisions prohibit public officers from participating in the administration of political parties, including holding executive roles.

Additionally, the Honorable Kargbo has accused the Clerk of making derogatory comments about opposition members, which is seen as a violation of the rights and privileges of Members of Parliament.

In his concluding statement, the Honorable Kargbo stated that if the Clerk does not resign, he will be obliged to withdraw recognition of the Clerk's authority and will take parliamentary action to maintain the integrity of the House of Parliament.
