Hon. Abdul Kargbo, the opposition leader in the House of Parliament, in an interview with Sarah Kallay Blog, lauded the President and Speaker's directive to place the Clerk of Parliament, Hon. Paran Tarawally, on leave.
This development, effected June 20th, 2025, stemmed directly from an ultimatum issued by the opposition All People's Congress (APC) party, threatening to boycott parliamentary proceedings unless Mr. Tarawally resigned or withdrew from his political party's internal elections.
Hon. Kargbo conveyed his approval that the Clerk was instructed to proceed on leave, as opposed to voluntarily stepping aside, which would have afforded him discretionary return.
Nevertheless, some members of the public have speculated whether this constitutes a tactic to appease the opposition into cooperation in parliamentary proceedings until the internal elections conclude.
Others have questioned whether this decision is influenced by more influential individuals within the party, aiming to diminish Hon. Paran's influence within the Sierra Leone People's Party.
