Orange Sierra Leone and the Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary have partnered to restore six acres of degraded forest within the Western Area Peninsula National Park (WAPNP).
This reforestation initiative, launched to mark World Environment Day, involved planting 5,000 trees to revitalize the critical Tecuyema/Congo catchment area.
The collaboration, which united conservationists and local community members, aims to address significant deforestation in a region essential to the capital’s infrastructure.
The watershed currently provides a primary water source for over 200,000 residents; by restoring the forest canopy, the project seeks to bolster biodiversity while securing the long-term viability of this vital natural resource.
