President Julius Maada Bio has formally requested a postponement of the upcoming ECOWAS Summit in Freetown, aiming to synchronize the regional event with the completion of the new $124 million international conference center in Lungi.
Government officials state this strategic shift is intended to ensure the venue is fully operational and equipped to host heads of state and international delegations to the highest standards.
The conference complex serves as a flagship infrastructure project designed to bolster Sierra Leone’s capacity for high-level diplomatic and investment gatherings.
The facility features a 1,400-seat multipurpose auditorium, a specialized presidential meeting hall, and extensive banquet and breakout spaces.
By modernizing its event infrastructure, the administration seeks to enhance the nation’s international profile, stimulate local job creation, and solidify its status as a competitive destination for regional cooperation.
