The Parliament of Sierra Leone has approved the appointment of former Inspector General of Police, Michael Ambrose Sovula, to a key national security position, alongside four other presidential nominees.
Sovula is set to serve as Chairman of the Advisory Committee for the National Commission on Arms and Ammunition (NCAA), a body responsible for regulating, controlling, and managing small arms and light weapons in Sierra Leone to enhance national security and stability.
His approval by Parliament marks a notable return to public service for the former police chief, who brings extensive experience in law enforcement and security management to the role. The committee is expected to play a critical advisory function in strengthening arms control systems across the country.
In addition to Sovula’s appointment, four other presidential nominees were also approved to serve in various capacities within the advisory structure of the commission.
Members of Parliament, during the approval process, encouraged the newly confirmed officials to apply their expertise in addressing emerging security challenges and ensuring effective oversight of arms and ammunition control nationwide.
The National Commission on Arms and Ammunition continues to play a central role in Sierra Leone’s efforts to prevent illicit arms proliferation and maintain internal peace and stability.
