Police have arrested a couple in Bo, seizing a cache of arms and ammunition, following a notable increase in armed robberies and other serious crimes across Sierra Leone's southern region. This was revealed in a press release from the headquaters of the Sierra Leone Police in freetown.
The arrests come days after John Lamina, the regional manager of the National Social and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), sustained a severe cutlass wound to the head during a robbery.
The very next day, the community was rocked by the killing of Reverend Father Amadu at his residence. Father Amadu, widely revered for his humility, unwavering faith, and significant peacebuilding efforts, was found dead with no immediate leads, prompting police to question parishioners who attended early mass.
In a significant development, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) announced on August 27, 2025, the arrest of Rodney Massaquoi and his wife, Mamie Jacob, in Bo City.
A search of their home yielded a single-barrel gun, an empty rifle magazine, five pairs of Operations Support Division (OSD) uniforms, three OSD berets, two pairs of boots, two OSD belts, a cutlass, a butcher's knife, three kitchen knives, and other items of interest to investigators.
Both suspects are currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing. The SLP has urged the public to remain calm and continue supporting law enforcement by providing timely and useful information to aid in their inquiries.
