Former Secretary General of Sierra Leone, Umaru Napoleon Koroma, has issued a statement appearing to defend the nation's First Family amidst recent political controversy, only to be countered by the First Lady herself, who identified him as an orchestrator of the very issues he addressed.
Koroma's statement, released publicly, began by framing the recent 14th national delegates conference of their party as a display of love, unity, and discipline that is now being portrayed, albeit with political motives, as something else.
He asserted that the conference's intention, guided by the party leader's directives, was to be showcased as transparent and disciplined to earn the recognition of party stalwarts and other nationals.
He denied any sinister motive or intent to target and/or disrespect anyone.
Koroma addressed the contentious moments in parliament, stating, as aftermaths of the congress, with residual politicking, which should have been kept out of parliament and expressed strong disapproval.
He concluded by emphasizing the party's resolve to retain power in 2028 and maintain the legacy of President Bio.
However, the First Lady herself distanced herself from his defense, identifying him as one of the individuals who orchestrated the very events that led to the controversy he was attempting to quell. She confronted him in the comment section of his post.
This counter-response from the First Lady adds a significant layer of complexity to the ongoing political narrative surrounding the party and the First Family.
