Ports Authority Return to Winning Ways with Victory Over Bullom Stars

Ports Authority returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Bullom Stars in their Sierra Leone Premier League Matchweek 25 encounter at the Approved School Field.

Both sides entered the match under pressure after failing to secure victories in their previous fixtures. Ports Authority had gone two matches without a win, while Bullom Stars were struggling through a poor run of seven games without victory, including six consecutive defeats.

The contest started brightly, with both teams showing attacking intent in search of an early breakthrough. It was Ports Authority who struck first in the eighth minute when Abass Conteh calmly slotted home a low finish after being set up by Stanley Bonirose.

Bullom Stars responded positively and pushed forward in search of an equaliser, creating several promising chances. However, they were repeatedly frustrated by a disciplined Ports Authority defence.

The “Waterfront Boys” extended their lead in the 20th minute when Papaye Gumba Mansaray converted from close range following a fine assist from Lansana Thoronka, giving Ports Authority a comfortable 2-0 advantage heading into halftime.

After the restart, Bullom Stars returned with renewed energy and began to apply pressure on the home side. Their persistence paid off in the 54th minute when Ibrahim O. Bangura’s deflected effort found the back of the net to reduce the deficit and give the visitors renewed hope.

Bullom Stars continued to search for an equaliser, but Ports Authority remained solid at the back and successfully held on for all three points.

The result lifts Ports Authority to fourth place on the league table with 37 points from 24 matches. Bullom Stars, meanwhile, remain 17th with 23 points, just one point above bottom-placed Diamond Stars, who were held to a goalless draw by Freetown City FC.

Looking ahead, Ports Authority will travel to Kenema to face Kamboi Eagles in a rescheduled Matchweek 24 fixture on Wednesday, April 29. Bullom Stars will host Wilberforce Strikers at the Approved School Field on the same day.
