The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has imposed a fine of One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Leones (NLe150,000) on the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) for violating Section 39(1)(d) of the Political Parties Act of 2022. This sanction stems from statements made by party member Wusu Dadiddah Jalloh during a broadcast on Liberty Online Television on Monday, November 24, 2025.
In its release issued on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, the Commission expressed grave concern that Jalloh's comments were inflammatory and held the potential to incite public unrest. Section 39(1)(d) of the Political Parties Act explicitly prohibits political actors from making statements that could provoke tension or disrupt public order.
The PPRC further noted that it had previously cautioned the SLPP, via a letter dated November 11, 2025, regarding actions contrary to the same provision of the Act.
The Commission underscored the paramount importance of responsible public communication by political parties and their members as mandated by the 2022 Act. The PPRC stressed that political statements broadcast on media platforms must adhere to established legal and ethical standards to safeguard national peace and stability.
The party has been allotted fourteen days to remit the fine. The PPRC reaffirmed its commitment to actively monitoring political conduct and ensuring strict compliance with all applicable laws.
