The case of Abdul Akim Bangura, a 28-year-old Practitioner Nurse, has been formally committed to the High Court for trial following his arraignment on serious drug-related offences.
Bangura appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1 to answer to two counts: unlawful possession of a prohibited drug, contrary to Section 8(a) of the National Drug Control Act 2008 (Act No. 10 of 2008), and unlawful transportation of a prohibited drug, in violation of Section 7(b) of the same Act.
Court documents state that on Wednesday, 22nd October 2025, at the Rogbere Kambia police checkpoint in the Port Loko judicial district of the Northern Province, Bangura was allegedly found in possession of 1,327 strips of tramadol and two small white dispensary cups containing the drug, all without lawful authority. He is also charged with unlawfully transporting the prohibited substance at the same location and time.
Bangura did not enter a plea when the charges were read. The State prosecutor, A.B.N. Taylor Kamara Esq., presented evidence, including the defendant’s statement and a forensic analyst report. Defense counsel, S. Bangura Esq., cross-examined the witnesses, and the matter was subsequently adjourned for a ruling.
After reviewing the submitted evidence, Magistrate Jah ruled that the prosecution had established sufficient grounds to warrant the case being transferred to the High Court for substantive trial. The case has been committed to the High Court for further legal proceedings.
