President Bio Joins High-Level AI Roundtable in New York

President Julius Maada Bio has joined other world leaders and stakeholders for a high-level roundtable discussion on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in New York.

The roundtable, convened by Kenyan President William Ruto, focused on how countries can work together to participate in the rapidly evolving global AI sector.

During the meeting, President Bio highlighted the need for African countries to take an active role in the development, governance and use of AI, rather than remain primarily consumers of technologies developed elsewhere.

He stressed the importance of international cooperation in developing and governing AI responsibly, while ensuring that its benefits address critical needs and are accessible across societies.

President Bio also reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to participating in global efforts on AI and strengthening the country’s engagement with the emerging AI ecosystem.

The discussions formed part of wider high-level engagements in New York during the 81st United Nations General Assembly, where AI governance and technological development have featured prominently on the international agenda.
