District Council conducted environmental and social screening exercises on 14–15 October 2026 in selected communities as part of preparations for the fourth round of the Accountable Governance and Basic Service Delivery (AGBSD) Project, supported by the World Bank through the Government of Sierra Leone.

The council team assessed proposed project sites to identify potential environmental and social risks. The planned interventions include reconstructing and expanding Maternal and Child Health Posts in Fornikoh Community, Galliness Chiefdom, and Vawahun Community, as well as rehabilitating and expanding a three-classroom school in Lortu Kpaka, Kpaka Chiefdom, and Pujehun District Council School in Najay Town, Kpanga Chiefdom.

The projects will include essential facilities such as staff quarters, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities, solar power systems, waste management infrastructure, laundry facilities and furniture, where applicable.

The screening aims to ensure that the projects meet community needs, encourage local participation and ownership, and address potential environmental and social risks.

The council is prioritising the rehabilitation and expansion of existing infrastructure to maximise previous investments and improve basic service delivery across the district.
