The prominent Sierra Leonean recording artist, Alhaji Amadu Bah, professionally known as LAJ, was recently taken into custody by law enforcement authorities. His legal representative, Madieu Sesay, confirmed the arrest, noting that Mr. Bah was apprehended while in transit to The Gambia.

A bench warrant was issued for the arrest of the Sierra Leonean musician and Peace Ambassador following his failure to appear before the Bo Magistrate Court on Friday.

The judicial order pertains to allegations regarding the use of abusive language directed toward the Mayor of Kenema City. Lead prosecutor Mohamed Monya Sheriff informed the court that an affidavit of service had been filed, confirming that the defendants were duly notified of the hearing. Despite this notification, the parties were absent from the proceedings.

Consequently, the court issued a bench warrant and adjourned the matter until April 1, 2026.

Subsequent to his initial detention at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters in Freetown, Mr. Bah was transferred to Bo under police escort. This relocation to the Southern Province was carried out promptly by the relevant authorities.

At present, the formal grounds for the transfer and the specific details of the allegations have not been publicly disclosed. Law enforcement agencies have yet to issue an official statement regarding the status of the investigation.

Counsel Madieu Sesay has confirmed that his client remains in state custody. The defense team is monitoring the situation to ensure that Mr. Bah's constitutional and procedural rights are upheld throughout his detention.
