Revenue Officer Faces Domestic Violence Charges Over Alleged Assaults on Husband

A 34-year-old revenue officer, Adama Josephine Keifala Samba, has appeared before Magistrate Augustine Brima Samura at Pademba Road Court No. 8, facing multiple charges of domestic violence.

The charges include physical, emotional, psychological, and economic abuse, contrary to Section 2(1) of the Domestic Violence Act of 2007.

According to court records, the alleged incidents occurred between January 1 and June 21, 2025, at No. 8 Madongo Town, off Congo Cross in Freetown. The defendant is accused of physically and emotionally abusing her husband, Buawah Jobo Musa Samba, within their marital relationship.

During the hearing, the husband testified that he had endured repeated assaults and threats from his wife. He told the court that the defendant destroyed his laptop during an argument, brandished a knife, and threatened to harm him and his girlfriend with acid, stating she would go to jail if he continued the relationship.

He further alleged that she confiscated his car keys, burnt several of his clothes and suits, and took various personal belongings, including documents, a gold chain, and grooming kits.

In another incident, he said the defendant entered his room at about 3 a.m., slapped him several times, and pulled his genitals despite his pleas for help. The witness said he recorded the incident on his Samsung Galaxy Z Flip phone and later transferred it to a memory stick. Both the phone and the memory device were tendered and played in court as evidence.

Defense lawyers M.S. Bah and C.M. Amara requested an adjournment to allow cross-examination. Magistrate Samura granted the request and adjourned the case to October 28, 2025, continuing bail for the defendant.

This case underscores the increasing visibility of domestic violence allegations in Sierra Leone’s courts and the growing legal focus on addressing such offenses.
