Save the Children Hands Over Newly Constructed School in Pujehun

Save the Children has officially handed over a newly constructed National Islamic Mission Primary School to the people of Macca Community in Soro Gbeima Chiefdom, Pujehun District.

The six-month school construction project was funded by the Government of Iceland as part of efforts to complement the Government of Sierra Leone’s Free Quality School Education Programme and expand access to education for children in rural communities.

The newly constructed school is expected to provide pupils in Macca and surrounding communities with a safer, more conducive and improved learning environment.

The official handover ceremony brought together national, district and community stakeholders, including the Chief Education Officer, Chairman of the Pujehun District Council, Paramount Chief of Soro Gbeima Chiefdom, Deputy Director of the Sierra Leone Teaching Service Commission, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Ambassador of Iceland to Sierra Leone, and the Chief Executive Officer of Save the Children.

Speaking at the ceremony, stakeholders expressed appreciation to Save the Children and the Government of Iceland for the intervention, describing the new school as an important investment in the education and future of children in Macca Community and neighbouring areas.

They emphasized that access to safe and quality learning facilities is essential to improving educational outcomes, particularly for children living in rural and underserved communities.

The intervention is expected to strengthen education delivery in Soro Gbeima Chiefdom and contribute to broader efforts by the Government and development partners to improve access to quality education across Sierra Leone.

The handover also highlights the continued partnership between the Government of Sierra Leone and development partners in supporting education, community development and the wellbeing of children across the country.
