In a high-profile case, a former security guard and an alleged accomplice appeared in court regarding a significant theft from Bicky's Place Boutique, with authorities recovering stolen items valued at millions of leones.
The first accused, David Kamara, a former security guard at the boutique, faces eight counts of larceny. Prosecutors allege that Kamara stole a variety of items, including assorted clothes valued at NLe 260,160, shoes worth NLe 292,100, bags valued at NLe 53,150, glasses totaling NLe 10,200, and purses valued at NLe 8,250. All stolen goods belonged to businesswoman Binta Tejan Kella.
His co-accused, Martin Lucious, faces charges of receiving stolen goods under the same Act. It is alleged that Lucious purchased stolen items such as 15 pairs of assorted sneakers valued at NLe 10,000, 101 pairs of sandals worth NLe 50,500, and 61 pieces of ladies’ wear valued at NLe 22,265.
During court proceedings, Kella testified that she first noticed items missing between May 1 and June 23, 2025. After confronting staff members without success, she involved Kamara’s mother, which led Kamara to confess the theft during a subsequent meeting. Kella reported the case to CID headquarters, where Kamara returned some stolen items, which were later presented as evidence.
Further investigation led to Lucious’s arrest, identified as the buyer of the stolen goods. Kella and CID officers visited Lucious’s business premises and recovered some of the stolen items.
Defense counsel C.M.B. Amara requested an adjournment for further cross-examination and also applied for bail for Kamara. However, Magistrate Jah denied bail for the first accused due to the seriousness of the offense but allowed bail for Lucious. The court adjourned the case until June 25, 2025, for further proceedings.
