Sengeh Takes Sierra Leone’s 2039 Middle-Income Ambition to London

Chief Minister Dr David Moinina Sengeh is in London for a series of meetings with British government officials, development finance leaders and private-sector stakeholders as Sierra Leone pursues its ambition of becoming a middle-income country by 2039.
In a post on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Sengeh said his engagements would include meetings with trade commissioners, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office’s Minister for Africa and International Development, and the chief executive and leadership of British International Investment (BII).
He also announced plans to engage private-sector representatives, deliver a talk at the Financial Times (FT) Africa Summit and meet members of the Sierra Leonean diaspora in the United Kingdom.
Sengeh said the visit was linked to President Julius Maada Bio’s development agenda, which he described as a clear mandate for the government to transform Sierra Leone into a middle-income country by 2039.
“President Julius Maada Bio has charged us with one single mandate- make Sierra Leone an middle income country by 2039,” Sengeh wrote, ending his post with the hashtag #WeWillDeliver.
The FT Africa Summit, scheduled for October 21–22 in London, brings together policymakers, business executives, investors and entrepreneurs to discuss Africa’s economic prospects, trade, investment and development partnerships.
The meetings are expected to provide opportunities for engagement with UK officials, development finance institutions and private-sector leaders on investment and development cooperation, in line with Sierra Leone’s long-term economic ambitions.
