Following a rigorous verification of lineage and ruling rights, sixteen candidates have been formally cleared to contest the Paramount Chieftaincy Election in Malen Chiefdom, Pujehun District, scheduled for June 14th.

The slate of approved candidates represents eight recognized ruling houses: Magbe (three), Sengova (two), Sengeh (two), Kortu (one), O'Neil (one), Kebbie (five), and Bankundo (two).

A significant aspect of the vetting proceedings involved the eligibility of the Magbe Ruling House, with Honourable Shaka Musa Sama emerging as its confirmed representative.

Southern Region Provincial Secretary Abu Bakarr Kamara emphasized that the verification process prioritized the candidates' legitimate connections to established ruling houses over individual credentials.

Historical records corroborated the Magbe family's status within the former Bandaguma District chieftaincy hierarchy, thereby validating Sama's standing to participate in the election.

Hon. Shaka Sama, a prominent advocate for land rights and local welfare, expressed to SKB his objective to utilize the office of Paramount Chief to facilitate mediation between stakeholders and promote regional development through amicable resolutions.

He further acknowledged the constitutional requirement to resign his parliamentary seat to serve effectively in the chieftaincy role.

The proceedings concluded in an orderly manner under the supervision of joint security forces. Officials from the Ministry of Local Government and the Electoral Commission have subsequently declared the nomination period open ahead of the upcoming polls.
