Shocking Courtroom Drama: Social Worker Faces Serious Charges After Disturbing Incident in Kenema

Solomon Samuel Sylvanus Gulama, a 40-year-old social worker residing in the Kpayama Section of Kenema City, has been arraigned before Magistrate Court No. 2 on three count charges, including wounding and malicious damage, contrary to Section 51 of the Malicious Damage Act 1861.
Her Worship, Magistrate Wilbri Hamida. M. John, presided over the proceedings.
The charges stem from an incident on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at No. 18 Saffa Street, Kenema, where Gulama allegedly maliciously wounded and assaulted Mohamed Banya, causing him actual bodily harm.
Additionally, Gulama is accused of maliciously damaging several items belonging to Mohamed Banya, including a Samsung Note '20' ultra Android mobile phone valued at Twenty Thousand New Leones (NLe 20,000), a Samsung Galaxy S10 Android mobile phone valued at Ten Thousand New Leones (NLe 10,000), ten glass plates valued at Five Hundred New Leones (NLe 500.00), and ten glass cups valued at Three Hundred New Leones (NLe 300.00). The total value of the damaged property amounts to Thirty Thousand, Eight Hundred New Leones (NLe 30,800/00).
During the court hearing on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, complainant Mohamed Banya testified that upon his arrival in Kenema from Freetown on the date of the incident, he discovered Gulama and his wife engaged in sexual activity in his room.
Banya stated that he began to film the scene, at which point Gulama allegedly snatched his phone, bit his fingers, and smashed the device. Banya reported profuse bleeding and immediately contacted his brother, John Kabba, and neighbors to witness the incident. He further testified that he invited the police to intervene and handed over Gulama for arrest.
Banya also informed the court that he was issued a police medical form for treatment at the Government hospital in Kenema, and the police medical report was produced and tendered as an exhibit.
The matter has been adjourned to September 18, 2025, for further hearing. The prosecution is led by Inspector Aiah Mafinda Teh and associated with Lawyer Alhaji Gassimu Kamanda, while the accused is represented by Defence Counsels Adu Foday Esq. and Pawusu. I. Bangura Esq.
