Sierra Leone’s Minister of Information and Civic Education, the Honourable Chernor Bah, has formalized a strategic partnership with the Republic of Türkiye. This collaboration is specifically designed to bolster national defenses against the escalating threats of misinformation and disinformation.

The agreement was reached during a bilateral summit with Head of Communications Professor Burhanettin Duran, on the margins of the 2026 International Strategic Communication Summit (Stratcom) in Istanbul. Both delegations committed to a formal framework aimed at optimizing public communication systems, addressing information disorders, and enhancing institutional resilience within the digital landscape.

Minister Bah emphasized that Sierra Leone remains dedicated to transparency and media literacy as fundamental tenets of modern governance. He noted that the partnership with Türkiye represents a critical advancement in national capacity-building, facilitating the exchange of technical expertise and the implementation of coordinated communication strategies.

“This partnership underscores our resolve to proactively address the evolving complexities of the global information environment,” stated Minister Bah. “By collaborating with established international partners, we are strengthening our ability to inform and engage our citizenry effectively.”

Professor Duran expressed his support for the initiative, confirming Türkiye’s commitment to providing technical assistance and specialized capacity-building programs for Sierra Leonean communication professionals.

The scope of the partnership includes advanced training in strategic communication, digital data management, and the development of robust, cross-border responses to counter false narratives.

This milestone further establishes Sierra Leone as a regional leader in public communication reform. It highlights the Ministry of Information and Civic Education’s ongoing efforts to build international alliances that safeguard truth, accountability, and public integrity in the digital information space.
