Development for Sierra Leone’s academic sector, as Chief Minister Dr. Moinina David Sengeh convened with the nation’s inaugural student delegation for the Pan-African Mathematics Olympiad (PAMO) on Wednesday.
This meeting preceded the team’s scheduled departure on Thursday, June 25, 2026, marking the country’s first formal participation in the continental competition.
PAMO serves as an annual elite forum for the continent’s premier mathematical talent. Sierra Leone’s entry into the competition follows recent domestic initiatives to prioritize STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education.
During the briefing, Dr. Sengeh emphasized the importance of academic excellence and international representation, urging the students to demonstrate the nation’s intellectual capabilities on the regional stage.
The participation of these students is viewed by educational stakeholders as a benchmark for the government’s ongoing curriculum reforms.
The delegation aims to foster academic ties with peer institutions across Africa while competing in advanced problem-solving categories.
