The Sierra Leone judiciary was rocked on Wednesday, September 24th, 2025, as two Indian nationals appeared in court on allegations of deception and financial fraud involving the Chief Justice and several prominent judges.
Prakash Ramrakhyans and Sindhi Chamantall, both Indian nationals, made their initial court appearance before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown. They face charges of obtaining money by false pretenses, specifically under Section 32(1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to court particulars, the defendants are accused of obtaining Le 243,806 (equivalent to USD 10,160) from Ibrahim Koroma at the Majestic Travel and Tours Airline Office, located at #15 Siaka Steven Street in Freetown.
The alleged deception involved falsely promising to secure six round-trip ASKY Airlines tickets to and from The Gambia for Chief Justice Komba Kamanda and five other Sierra Leonean judges, a promise they allegedly knew to be false and intended to defraud.
Upon the charges being read and explained, both accused individuals pleaded guilty to the offense. Magistrate Jah subsequently refused bail and remanded them to the male correctional facility in Freetown.
The case has been adjourned to September 30th, 2025, for further proceedings. Chief Superintendent of Police Tommy B. Zizer, Esq., is prosecuting the matter.
