At a ceremony held at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess, Minister of Internal Affairs, Rtd AIG Morie Lengor Esq., lauded the initiative, emphasising that the allocation of funds demonstrates the government's commitment to transparency and effective management within the police force.
Minister Lengor highlighted the SLP's evolution into a service-oriented institution, stressing the need for responsiveness to public needs, particularly in addressing lawlessness, indiscipline, and road-related injuries and fatalities.
He commended the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and his team for their efforts to restore order and discipline on the roads, asserting that these initiatives are crucial for sanity in traffic management and ensuring safety for all road users.
Inspector General of Police, Mr William Fayia Sellu, confirmed the bikes were procured using government funds and will be deployed nationwide, with a focus on Freetown. He expressed confidence that the motorbikes would significantly curb traffic violations.
The ceremony concluded with an inspection of the bikes, symbolising a renewed commitment to safer roads and more disciplined traffic management.
