Sierra Leone Port Authority FC secured a vital 2-1 victory over Bhantal FC in an entertaining Leone Rock Premier League encounter at the Approved School Playing Field on Tuesday 19th May, strengthening their push for a strong finish to the season.


The win lifts Port Authority FC to fifth place on the league table with 41 points, overtaking Bhantal FC, who drop to sixth position with 39 points following the defeat in a closely contested battle for higher standings.


Port Authority made a fast start to the match, taking the lead just two minutes in when Mohamed Bangura found the back of the net to give the hosts an early advantage and silence the visitors.


The Waterfront Boys maintained their momentum and doubled their lead in the 58th minute through Papaye Gumba Mansaray, who finished calmly to put Port Authority firmly in control of the encounter.


Bhantal FC responded in the 69th minute when Mohamed Bangura converted from the penalty spot, reducing the deficit and reigniting hopes of a comeback.


The match became more open in the closing stages, with both sides pushing forward. Port Authority came close to restoring their two-goal cushion in the 82nd minute following a swift counterattack, but Bhantal goalkeeper Alhaji Sesay produced a crucial save to keep his side in contention.


Despite late pressure from Bhantal FC in search of an equaliser, Port Authority’s defence remained disciplined and resolute to secure all three points.


The result marks an important boost for Port Authority FC as the competition for top-half positions in the Leone Rock Premier League continues to intensify.
