Deputy Minister of Information and Civic Education, Abdul Aziz Bockarie, announced during a press briefing on July 31, 2026, that President Julius Maada Bio will host Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema for a state visit from August 2-4.

The bilateral meeting aims to strengthen diplomatic ties and expand trade opportunities between the two nations.

President Nguema’s visit reciprocates President Bio’s previous diplomatic missions to Gabon. Beyond official ministerial discussions on key economic sectors, the Gabonese leader is scheduled to tour Sierra Leone’s landmarks, including the new Maada Bio Conference Centre in Lungi.

On the domestic front, Bockarie highlighted progress on the "new and progressive" Constitution currently under parliamentary review. This initiative seeks to conclude a decade-long reform process—stalled under the previous administration—to modernize laws and better reflect Sierra Leone's current socio-political landscape.

Finally, the Deputy Minister called for full public participation in the upcoming National Population and Housing Census this December.

He underscored that accurate data is vital for equitable resource distribution and effective national development planning.
