Sierra Leone Unveils Maps for Three New Rural Councils
The Government of Sierra Leone has officially presented geographical maps for three newly proposed administrative bodies in the Western Area: the Waterloo, Mountain, and York Rural Councils.
Unveiled during a Civic Day engagement on Tuesday, October 20, in Waterloo, the maps provide local residents with a detailed overview of the newly designated boundaries and administrative territories.
The redistricting initiative aims to modernize local governance across the region. Officials noted that the town hall event offered community members a direct forum to ask questions and assess how the proposed structural adjustments will impact public service delivery and local administration.
This public consultation is part of a broader nationwide effort tied to preparations for the upcoming 2026 Population and Housing Census.
Government representatives emphasized that establishing clear council borders and updated demographic data remains crucial for effective regional development planning.
